Regarding polls. Framing is a huge source for variance in policy surveys.

Danny Kahneman said (I actually heard it myself in his lecture) regarding polls used to price pollution etc "I can design the wording of those polls for you to get a X10 or 1/10 of the pricing by manipulation the wording and framing of the questions!

Your post reminds me of Vice President Pence claiming a majority of Americans support a 15 week nationwide abortion ban during a 2024 primary debate.

What seemed off to me was Mr Pence seemed like he believed it. Maybe he didn’t, but it seemed to me like he did.

I found the poll I think he might have seen. The question asked was multiple choice with the only more lenient option being zero restrictions up to the point of birth.

It weirded me out because I generally like to think politicians on the national stage to be well informed or at least better informed than I am.
